Athletics is a sport activity that dates back to ancient times. The first part of the course will allow students to develop an understanding of the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing in the events that comprised the activities in athletics. This course will add to your basic understanding, as well as provide simple teaching/coaching points for each of the track and field events. In addition, participants develop a greater awareness of an athlete’s strength and conditioning in order to improve performance.

The second part of the course will allow students to develop in areas of planning, developing and implementing organization and administrative aspect of the sport. It will cover planning, preparation and conducting of school and community track and field competition, and it should offer coaching program writing and implementation with groups of school children.
Sport, exercise and any physical activity demands a lot of energy from the human body. The human body is comprised of organs that work together to perform their functions. Therefore, the aim of this course is to familiarize the students with the functional and structural organization of the human body. It introduces the anatomy and physiology of the human body. This course takes a closer look at the body systems including the skeletal, muscular, nervous system, cardiovascular, respiratory, Digestive, endocrine and the reproductive systems. It provides students with basic knowledge to prepare them for more advanced units in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year especially Biomechanics, Sport Nutrition, Sport & Exercise Physiology, the laboratory courses and other health related and sports science units on offer in the Physical Education program.
