
This course introduces the major livestock species and its productions on simple stomach or monogastric animals. It provides the knowledge on the systems of livestock production with the emphasis on the importance of livestock in relation to the rural welfare and the human nutrition in terms of food production and employment. The roles of animals in agricultural work and transport, provision of wastes for fertilizer and fuel, supporting ancillary industries, utilizing resources and playing important roles in local economies. Topics for study include: systems of production, poultry production; pig production, rabbit production; work animals and important aspects of welfare, nutrition and management of each species of livestock.
