Assessments and teaching and learning are inseparable. The unit focuses on the assessments that are conducted by the classroom teachers after teaching, in contrast to those that are designed externally.

Assessment results reflect the potentials, capabilities and talents of the students as well as the competency, accuracy and relevance of teaching by the teacher. The unit prepare both the aspiring and serving (teachers) students to appreciate that the results of assessments reflect the efforts of both the teacher and the student. Therefore, it guides the teacher to be prudent in choosing relevant teaching pedagogies and assessment tasks to expose the knowledge, skills and values that are expected of the learners. The unit also equips the teacher to apply his or her wisdom and professional judgement on their students’ performance. This unit introduces students on the significance of assessment, monitoring and evaluation in schools. This responsibility is entrusted to the teacher.

Finally, this unit introduces the participants to a variety of assessment and reporting methods.
