Midwifery Practice 2 (SHM 407) builds on the knowledge and skills gained
in Midwifery Practice 1, where students studied the normal physiology and care
of pregnancy, labour, birth, the postnatal period, and the newborn. The course
aims to prepare students to recognise, assess, and manage complex and
complicated cases during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period
through evidence-based care, risk assessment, early detection, appropriate
consultation, and timely referral. Through classroom learning, simulation, and
supervised clinical practice, students develop the clinical competence and
critical thinking required to safely manage women with obstetric complications
within the midwife's scope of practice
