This course is designed to bridge the gap between university foundation physics and advanced mechanics giving strong basis for work in applied and pure mechanics especially in quantum and statistical mechanics. The topics include Newtonian mechanics and dynamics of single particle; Harmonic oscillators and oscillating systems; central force motion; and relativity.

•Appreciate the importance of classical mechanics in formulating and solving problems in many different areas of physics and develop problem-solving skills more generally.

•Identify difference between Newtonian and analytical mechanics and use basic concepts of classical mechanics and apply them to a variety of problems associated with the motion of a single particles, interactions between particles and the motion of rigid bodies

.

•Appreciate the theories of relativity in the understanding modern physics concepts and the general physics of the universe.
