Role of chemistry in agriculture, extraction of
copper, gold and silver, nickel and cobalt, crude oil and natural gas,
medicinal plants of commercial potential, chemistry and commercial applications
of mushrooms, oil palm industry, and products of coconuts and rubber is
discussed in this course. Application of chemistry applicable to Papua New
Guinea in downstream processing of mineral and agricultural resources,
technologies required and market requirements are also investigated. This
course will also provide effects of environmental impacts from these processes
and various ways of waste management. The applications of sustainable
management strategies in the extraction of natural resources will be
covered.
