This is an introductory course on the basic principles of beekeeping (Apiculture) and provides understanding of the important of concepts of bee farming and honey production. Students will gain knowledge of husbandry practices and issues underpinning the rearing and management of honeybee as part of livestock farming and roles in rural development – food security, income generation and cultural and socio-economic development. The major areas covered include the introduction of beekeeping in the country, keeping of bees, purpose and role of honeybee (domesticated species) in rural agricultural farming systems, production practices and current status the cottage industry in the country.
