The course introduces students to research principles and methods, the designs for experiments and surveys, and the statistics involved in scientific and social research. Emphasis is on agricultural research designs and methods, hypothesis development, randomization and replication, field plot design, questionnaire development and agricultural statistics (parametric and non-parametric). Hands-on experience with agricultural research designs and the application of statistics using SPSS and/or GENSTAT are integrated into the course. Relationships between findings, conclusions and recommendations arising from the research will be emphasized.
