
This course introduces students to the principles and practices of creating and managing sustainable agriculture system through well-informed planning and management decisions. Content to study include different agricultural systems (crops, livestock, fish and agro-forestry), the energy, water and mineral flow, and ecosystem dynamics while economic sustainability will focus on selecting profitable enterprise and efficient use of production factors of land, capital, technology and expertise.
Students will be given an opportunity to study holistic farm planning and integration of selected enterprises to maintain high yield and to promote sustainable agriculture. The UoG model farm and other similar farms in the country will be used as reference points for this study.
