This course introduces students to basic skills in establishing and managing an enterprise in the rural setting. The subject content on major crops and livestock farmed by people in rural areas for sale and consumption and the technologies used to farm, harvest and process them will be taught. Technologies in this case include both physical and innovations that are less costly and easy to understand and apply to the farming of crops and animals will be taught. 

These may include farm tools, implements and equipment, small machines, farm chemicals, farm fertilizers, and other appropriate technologies, farm planning, building designs and construction, fence erection, stock yard construction, care and maintenance of farm implements and equipment, building of erosion control structures such as terraces, nursery and nursery management. Other related topics to be introduced by the course lecturer. The course will involve both theory and practical work.
