This course discusses the planning experiences and processes involved in mine operation and in establishing the mining townships in the rural areas or mine sites in PNG. The emphasis is made on success stories and failures and it consequences of Planning in Mining. It covers spin-off benefits and issues arised. out of mining operation in the country. Planning failures translates into mining issues such as landowner displacement from impact zones, environmental and social damages, mine lease strategies were also discussed. The course in general equipped students with empirical knowledge to the socio-economic impacts on minr and adjacent communities including affected communities and how business infrastructures are established to generate income to support those communities.
