Introduction
Welcome to the course People & Environment offered in Division of Indigenous & Development Studies under the Strand Environment & Sustainability. This course is made possible through the partnership between Research & conservation Foundation and the University of Goroka and the funding assistance of The Christensen Fund.
This course will give an overview of humans and their interactions with the environment as well as with each other in the social context. It introduces students to the basic and fundamental principles, values and factors that have shaped how humans utilise their environment from prehistoric era to today. It aims to provide students a balanced perspective on facts presented for students to negotiate their personal values systems and principles upon their rational to be environmentally conscious.
