DESCRIPTION
In conservation and natural resource management, sustainability of the ecosystem, people and their livelihoods are crucial as they are an integral part of each other. For communities to be sustainable, their food sources and livelihoods must also be sustainable. Ensuring sustainability is maintained and integrated into existing programs, projects, systems, and institutions requires planning. Thus, this course was designed to enhance students’ understanding of the purpose and reasons for planning for sustainability.

The course introduces students to the notion of planning from sustainability perspective. Sustainability is about the ability of the earth’s various natural systems and human cultural systems and economies to survive and adapt to the changing environmental conditions indefinitely. Moreover, sustainability attempts to balance the needs of the present and future generations and the natural systems that sustain all life.
