Appreciate and understand the multiple nature of PNG national heritage by systematically and chronologically exposing aspects of the past that now constitute a national heritage. Heritage, in its totality embraces not only the distant past but also includes the colonial period. The course covers the prehistoric period going back 50,000 years, highlighting attainments of the early ancestors and continued occupation and local adaptations, including the independent development of agriculture. The other aspect of PNG National Heritage is the Western colonial legacy, an experience shared by all Papua New Guineans.
