This introductory course in Indigenous studies is essentially about the wealth of the knowledge base of indigenous people. In PNG, every social group is indigenous. Students will be guided to appreciating what has always been around and what has always been theirs. The course will enable students to look at their own and other indigenous societies as entities with a knowledge base that has ensured their survival over thousands of years but which we take for granted today and indeed at times ridicule it as primitive, inefficient, uneconomical. The wisdom of the ancestors is becoming all too obvious and thus has been given recognition and called indigenous knowledge.
