This course introduces students to the idea ‘interpreting our heritage’. Interpretation! Is it an art or pedagogy? Teaching as in communicating information to an audience by way of speaker to receiver is not the same as interpretation. Interpretation is the art of creating an environment in which the receptor deciphers the information using all sensory percepts based on prior acquired knowledge and experience. Tilden (1967) identifies 6 principles of interpreting our heritage. In this course students will be exposed to these principles of interpreting our heritage as opposed to teaching our heritage.
