The course Environmental Impact Assessment introduces the methodology of environmental impact assessment (EIA) as a vital tool for sound environmental management and decision-making. The course provides an overview of concepts, methods, issues and various forms and stages of EIA process. The course examines the political and legal framework for impact assessment and the procedures and approaches that are routinely applied to evaluate and mitigate the impact of major developments. The course also introduces sustainability assessment, strategic environmental assessment and the theory and practice of biological offsets as a mitigation measure in management unavoidable residual impacts projects.
