Course Description
This course is the first half of the year-long curriculum and instruction and evaluation course. The course focuses on the professional and pedagogical needs of agriculture teachers and instructors who will teach in high schools, secondary schools, national high schools, vocational centers, teachers colleges and private training centers in Papua New Guinea and small island nations in the Pacific. The main contents will include history of agriculture education in PNG, agriculture education philosophy, curriculum development, teaching methods and skills, lesson planning & programing, media or realia and responsibility of a professional agriculture teacher.
Other important aspects to be studied include instructional objective development and collaborative school management principles & cycle. The course will also provide opportunities for participants to demonstrate much of the above aspects in small groups through peer group practicum and in micro teaching. Sometimes will also be spent in review and familiarization of the Agriculture curriculum - syllabuses and teachers guides which are been used in the PNG Public school system especially at the High and Secondary school levels.
