Good afternoon Class
Welcome to CHE 312 - Organic Chemistry II Classroom.
Course Overview
This course is a continuation from Organic Chemistry I and covers carboxylic acids and its derivatives, amines, phenols and thiols with particular emphasis on;
•nomenclature, properties, acidity and basicity using pka,
•basic reactions and synthesis.
•Pericyclic and photochemical reactions are also covered.
•Spectroscopic techniques such as IR, UV, H NMR and mass spectrometry are emphasized/illustrated as important tool for structure determination of organic compounds.
Learning Objectives
1.Based on satisfactory completion of this course, a student will be able to:
2.Draw the structure of organic molecules and identify the functional groups
3.Describe organic compound and how they are composed. Analyze properties, reactions, and mechanism of the reactions of organic compounds.
4.Interpret structure, stereochemistry, nomenclature, and reactions of carboxylic acids and
its derivatives, amines, amino acids, proteins, phenols and thiols
5.Explain the reaction and synthesis of carboxylic acids and its derivatives, amines, amino acids, proteins, phenols and thiols
Assessment
Assessment task Weightings
•Assignment 10%
•Practical 10 %
•Quiz 10%
•Test 20 %
•Final Exam 50 %
Total 100%
