This course is designed to prepare students to reflect and examine the guidance and counselling services provided in schools. It will introduce you to the different types of guidance and counselling programmes that are available in schools and you will be expected to describe the kind of services provided in your school to manage the behaviour of students and provide a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning in your school.
The second part focuses on engaging students in acquiring basic counselling skills which they can harness in either schools or other agencies. Due to the education reform schools now have huge numbers which has resulted in an increase in antisocial behaviour, hence, teachers and other social workers need basic counselling skills to provide effective counselling service in their schools and community.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to improve the guidance service provided in your school. You will also acquire basic counselling skills to assist the young people you work with to develop values and life orientations which will guide them mentally, physically, and emotionally as they continue their journey into the future.
