The course introduce students to crop science and production principles and and practices of crop husbandary in the tropics. Crops science deals with crop crop plants as a member of the vegetable kingdom, which occupies a unique position in the agricultural production of any community or country. A successful study in crop science should make students to appreciate crop plants as an intresting complex biological organism, occupying a dominant position in farming, a factory which manufacture food for men and animal, provide materials for agro-industries and play an influential role in the economy of the country, main content area to be covered includes the origin of crops,plant growth requirment,catogeries in which crops are divided and the crop agronomy.
Crop husbandary deals with crop husbandary and factors affecting choices of crops, land selection and preparation, nursery practices, planting and plant specifications, weeds and insects pests and their control practices,crop nutrition, harvesting, processing and storage, and appropriate post harvest technologies of common indigenious and introduced crops grown in PNG.
